Information Technology for a Major LNG Terminal in Europe
Client Background: The Company was building a grassroots LNG terminal with access to the European natural gas grid and required support in the design and development of the information systems required to manage and operate the LNG terminal.

The Situation: As a new entrant into the LNG industry, the Company was interested to utilize LNG best practices in the design and development of its information systems. The scope of the information systems included business management, contract administration, scheduling, terminal automation, and compliance management.

The Solution: Resources2 Energy proposed a business process led design effort that focuses on the business requirements and not the technology. A series of workshops were conducted with the key stakeholders to develop the business processes. The resulting Blueprint was approved by management and used as the basis for the information systems requirements definition, software selection, contracting, and implementation. R2E is supporting the client through all phases of the project through commissioning.

The Results: The Company is using the Blueprint to drive the design and implementation of the information systems. The Blueprint has served to reduce projects risks, ensure application fit for purpose, and forms the foundation for the commercial management of the terminal.
Marketing Strategy Consulting
with a Large International Engineering Company
Client Background: The Company has a worldwide reputation for quality engineering, design, project management, and construction management services to the oil and gas; refining and chemical; pipeline; automation and control; and process and manufacturing industries. It has over 5000 employees with offices around the world.

The Situation: Before launching a new service and making further investments, the company wished to ensure that it had the right go-to-market strategy and approach to overcome the challenges it anticipated to experience in the marketplace.

The Solution: Resources2 Energy was retained to help develop the marketing strategy and program to launch the service. It was decided that the starting point was to conduct primary market research into what the Company’s clients valued in the new service, and how they viewed the Company and its competitors. Working with the Company, R2E conducted a market survey that reached out to a broad cross section of the Company’s existing clients and prospects across a number of geographies and market segments. The results of the survey were used in answering key questions related to market segmentation, positioning, competitive differentiation and value proposition. Subsequently, the marketing strategy and a supporting marketing program were developed and rolled out.

The Results: The Company is confident of its strategy and approach because it is grounded in solid market research and truly reflects the current market dynamics and its clients' requirements. The Company is currently rolling out the marketing program across four market segments and three geographies.
Implementation of a Supply Chain Optimization
Organization for a Large Integrated Middle East Oil Company
Client Background: The Company was in the process of implementing a major multi-year upgrade of its supply chain optimization tools. Critical to the success of the implementation was the formation of a centralized planning and scheduling organization to manage across its supply chain.

The Situation: The Company’s goal is to become the best in class supply chain organization in the region. Substantial benefits were expected to be achieved with the implementation of the supply chain optimization best practices.

The Solution: Resources2 Energy was retained to help form and implement the new organization. In addition to establishing a centralized planning and scheduling activity, R2E established a supply chain excellence and technology support organization. The consulting services included developing business processes with embedded best practices, roles and responsibilities, staffing and transition planning, and developing procedures. R2E led the change management effort with regular communications and change management activities with all stakeholders. The change management challenges are significant due to new business processes, new interactions, new organization, additional responsibilities, and new technologies to support the business processes.

The Results: The Company is moving forward with its implementation and expects to achieve its objectives and benefits. The Company is currently preparing for Go-Live.
Energy Management
Consulting with a Large US Refiner
Client Background: In an effort to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, a Major US Refiner was pursuing a strategic multi-site energy reduction initiative that consisted of the following tactical steps:

> Identification and capture of energy reduction opportunities
> Base lining current energy use and identifying value of the energy reduction achieved by each sites initiatives
> Creation of an energy dashboard to manage and sustain the benefits gained

The Situation: In support of sustaining the benefits gained, tracking energy consumption, and providing feedback to operations to address issues, energy targets for each of their refinery process units are required. These energy targets need to be dynamic in the sense that the targets must change with changing unit operating conditions if they are to be meaningful.

The Solution: R2E was able to help this company to create achievable dynamic targets for energy consumption by energy type for each of the process units based on current operating conditions using process expertise, advanced statistical tools, and historical operating data.

The Results: The resulting dynamic targets are an integral part of their energy dashboard providing a real-time comparison of actual energy consumption to unit targets, drill down capability to specific process targets that operations can manipulate to optimize energy usage, and energy consumption visibility for management oversight to seek continuous reduction in energy costs.
